Where they started
Kiss had been on the Cork dial since the late nineties, moved across the band more than once, and then went quiet. New studio, gear back in, DJs lined up, going back on air.
What they did not have was anywhere online. A station can be broadcasting perfectly and still be invisible, because most people do not tune a radio any more. They search the name, and whatever comes up decides whether they listen.
The brief was narrower than most. They needed somewhere a person lands and hears the station within one tap.
What we built
A single page that does one job properly.
- A live player wired straight to their stream, playing the moment you press it
- A live listener count, pulled from the stream server itself, so the station can see how many people are listening
- Lock screen artwork and controls, so it behaves like a real radio app on a phone
- A WhatsApp line to the studio for requests and shout outs, which is how a local station actually talks to its listeners
- Ways to listen, on the dial, online, or through a smart speaker
- Social links, a branded 404, privacy in place, no cookie banner because the site sets no cookies
Where it landed
99 performance, 96 accessibility, 100 best practices, 100 search.
The player works, the count is live, and the station has an address people can be sent to. When someone hears about Kiss and searches the name, there is something to find and something to press.
The decision we made with them
There was a full multi-section site built alongside this, and they chose not to use it. What the station actually wanted was for people to listen, and every extra section was something between a visitor and the play button.
So the listen page is the site. Sometimes the right build is the smaller one.
